About Optus & Bell
Bell Shakespeare
The year 2010 is an important milestone for Bell Shakespeare. It marks 20 years since this intrepid company started with no more than a burning desire to bring classic theatre to the people of Australia, so that they might marvel at the greatest plays ever written and see their lives, loves and aspirations truly reflected.
The Bell Shakespeare vision is to create theatre that allows audiences of all walks of life to see themselves reflected and transformed through the prism of great writing. Bell Shakespeare believes that our greatest resource is our capacity to imagine and to transform: to picture a different world, to know that it can be one of our own making - and that we can be both its creator and a character within it.
Artistic director John Bell works to demonstrate the brilliance of Shakespeare and other playwrights, engaging excellent artists, discovering new talent, devising exciting collaborations and making Bell Shakespeare one of the most dynamic theatre companies in Australia.
The company has an array of learning programmes including three Actors At Work teams servicing metropolitan and regional areas across Australia, school performances, student seminars and interactive student and teacher masterclasses and scholarships.
